The Cryolipolysis treatment is a cosmetic procedure to remove body fat in the body. It works by freezing th fat cells from specific parts of the body. Plastic surgeons and medical spas use this to target areas of the body where it is more difficult to remove fat by diet and exercise.
How does it work?
The procedure is non-invasive as it does not involve surgery, cuts, or anesthetics, thus carrying less risk than liposuction. It uses freezing temperatures to break down fat cells. The cold does not damage other cells in the way it does the fat cells, so there is no damage to skin or underlying tissues. During the procedure, the practitioner vacuums the skin above the area of fatty tissue into an applicator that cools the fat cells. The treatment takes about an hour and there is no recovery time because there is no damage. After the treatment series, it may take around 4-6 months for the fat cells to leave the body. In that time, the area of fat will decrease by an average of 20%.
Cryolipolysis can deliver significant fat layer reduction in these targeted areas which help to contour the body and reclaim its natural shape. Measuring with a caliper, people lost an average of 14.67 to 28.5 % of the fat in the areas treated. When fat reduction was measured with ultrasound, people lost 10.3% to 25.5%.
Possible Side Effects
The rate of complications and side effects is lower than with more invasive procedures, such as liposuction. Patients may experience a slightly uncomfortable cold sensation that typically subsides within 10-12 minutes after the procedure begins. If an excessively painful sensation is felt during the procedure, please notify your technician immediately. The most common comment was having less sensation than beforehand in the treated area.
Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle with Cryolipolysis
Keep in mind that continued unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle will result in less fat reduction. So lifestyle plays an important role during and after the treatment. The cryolipolysis procedure is only one option for fat removal. Since benefits and risk can vary between individuals, it is important to talk to a trained professional to discuss your options.
